Digboi Refinery - India's Oldest Operating Refinery

India's oil and gas sector has seen tremendous growth over the years, with a number of refineries established across the country. However, Digboi Refinery in the northeastern state of Assam holds a special place in the history of Indian oil refining. It is the oldest operating refinery in the country and has played a significant role in shaping India's oil industry.

Digboi Refinery was commissioned in 1901, when crude oil was discovered in the region. It was established by Assam Oil Company, which later became part of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
